ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS TO THE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

Candidates should begin the process of gaining admission to your program of choice (Educational Studies -non-certification Program or Teacher Education –certification Program) upon successful completion of 42 hours of credit. Admission to education programs are required before candidates are allowed to enroll in 300 or 400 level courses.

To gain admittance, the following requirements must be met/ fulfilled:

Requirements for Admission to College of Education Professional Programs

Teacher Education

o Passed all sections of the Missouri General Education Assessment (MoGEA)

Candidates taking the MoGEA four subtests: Reading Comprehension and Interpretation, Writing, Mathematics, and Science/Social Studies. The minimum score requirements for the revised MoGEA for the 2017-2018 school year are: Reading-English  183 ,Writing—167, Math—180, and Science/Social Studies--183.

o Complete 60 Hour- Aide Classroom Experiences

This is the student’s first field experience as part of our entry requirements to the College of Education at Harris-Stowe State University requires 60-clock hours of classroom or other approved experience prior to admittance into the Teacher Education Program.

o Complete application

o Cumulative Grade Point Average GPA requirement: 2.75 overall GPA, 3.0 GPA in major and a 3.0 professional education GPA

o Personal Goal Statement

o Letter of Recommendation by current Faculty member

o Have completed at least 48 semester hours of General Education

o Have SAT/ACT scores on file

o Good standing at the University

Assessment requirements implemented by DESE: • Missouri Educator Profile (MEP) is required for admission to the program beginning in fall 2015. The assessment will be a part of the following course: (EDUC 0210 Introduction to Field Experiences) • Missouri Standards-Based Performance Assessment (MoPTA) for exit to the Student teaching Professional Education Program—implementation planned for September 2015. • All teacher candidates will be required to pass the appropriate initial certification, state-mandated content examination(s) (MoCA) prior to finalizing placement into student teaching.
