Time Limitation on Loan Eligibility

A federal regulation affecting new borrowers went into effect on July 1, 2013 that limits the time period during which you can receive Direct Subsidized loans to 150 percent of the standard length of the program in which you are enrolled. For a four-year baccalaureate degree program, the maximum period a new borrower can receive subsidized loans is six years.

If you borrowed student loans prior to July, 1, 2013, you are exempt from this limitation on subsidized loans.
