NCATE/MOSTEP

The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) is the accrediting organization for US schools, colleges/universities and departments of education.

Accreditation is “a process for assessing and enhancing academic and educational quality through voluntary peer review. NCATE accreditation informs the public that an institution has a professional education unit that has met state, professional, and institutional standards of educational quality.” (Learn more at: http://www.ncate.org/)

Harris-Stowe State University Teacher Education programs have been accredited by NCATE since 1954. Also, these programs meet the state requirements under MoSTEP (Missouri Standards for Teacher Education Programs) and are recognized by the state of Missouri as an approved education preparation program.
