Relevant career experience is the key to securing professional employment. Through co-op and internship programs, students have the opportunity to explore career interests and gain relevant experience. The programs are designed to integrate academic learning experiences with paid, planned and supervised work experiences. Co-op and internship positions coordinated through the Office of Career Services can be used to fulfill the academic internship requirement for all majors except Teacher Education, who will instead complete a semester of student teaching. In summary, the noneducation academic programs require senior level students to complete an internship consisting of a minimum of 240 internship hours. The internship must be approved by the student’s academic advisor and the required paperwork is to be completed prior to registering for the internship course. Students must be enrolled in the internship course in order to receive credit for the hours worked. Students are responsible for having the position approved by their respective academic department even if the position is obtained through Career Services. More specific information about the internship academic requirements can be obtained from the individual academic departments.
