Information about students, which is considered "Directory Information," can be released without a student's prior consent. These items include:
Students who wish to delete personal items from "Directory Information" should contact the Office of the Registrar (Room 116) and complete the appropriate form.
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) was passed by Congress in 1974 to protect student records from being shared with those who do not have a legitimate reason to access them. Under the provisions of FERPA,
In accordance with FERPA, currently enrolled students have the right to withhold disclosure of “Directory Information." Should a student decide to request nondisclosure of information, any requests for such information will be refused. Students are encouraged to carefully consider the consequences of any decision to withhold such Directory Information.
Students may give authorization to specific persons or request nondisclosure of information by completing and returning the FERPA AUTHORIZATION/ NONDISCLOSURE FORM to the Office of the Registrar, HGA Room 116. The authorization to release information is only valid for one school year and must be received or updated every fall semester by the last day of the registration period.
