Dr. Dwaun Warmack: President

President, Harris-Stowe State University

Dr. Warmack is originally from Detroit, MI and a graduate of Finney High School. He attended Schoolcraft College in Livonia, MI and holds a bachelor’s degree in education and master's degree in sociology from Delta State University in Cleveland, MS. He has a doctoral degree in educational leadership with a specialization in higher education from Union University in Jackson, TN.

Dr. Warmack was appointed president of Harris-Stowe State University in July 2014, and brings more than 16 years of experience in higher education to the position. A student-centered, customer service-oriented, and transformational leader, Dr. Warmack became the vice president for student affairs on July 1, 2010 at Bethune-Cookman University at the age of 33, making him the youngest vice president in school history. On June 1, 2013 Warmack was promoted to senior vice president for Administration and Student Services.

Prior to his tenure at Bethune-Cookman, he was the associate dean of students at Rhodes College in Memphis, TN, where he had oversight of student affairs areas including judicial affairs, student activities, Greek life, new student and parent orientation, and multicultural affairs. While at Rhodes, he served on the institution's SACS Reaffirmation Committee. Warmack has also held positions at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC and Delta State University in Cleveland Mississippi.

In addition, Dr. Dwaun J. Warmack was the 2008 recipient of the Dr. Kent Wyatt young alumni of the year award at Delta State University. In 2012 he participated in Hampton University’s On The Road to the Presidency: Executive Leadership Summit and in 2013 he participated in the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU), Millennium Leadership Initiative (MLI), Preparing for the Presidency Program.

He is a change agent who has a commitment to the development of the ‘whole student,' including learning inside and outside the classroom.

The “Moments of Silence: A Response to Ferguson Experience Exhibition” by the Coalition of Artists for Peace will be on display at the Don & Heide Wolff Jazz Institute & Art Gallery on the campus of Harris-Stowe State University January 24-February 6, 2015.
HSSU Statement to the Community Regarding MLK Celebration Protesters
On Monday, January 19, in honoring the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Committee held its 46th Annual MLK Celebration at Harris-Stowe State University. This event, which in the past was held at Powell Symphony Hall, was interrupted by protesters. The incident was quickly resolved without any arrests or injuries and the program continued as planned. The safety of our students, faculty, staff and visitors to our campus will continue to be an unwavering top priority.
Harris-Stowe Launches Center for Non-Violence and Abuse Prevention
Harris-Stowe State University is proud to announce the launch of the new Center for Non-Violence and Abuse Prevention, with the inaugural kick-off event, “Breaking the Silence” to be held Thursday, January 29, 2015, at the William L. Clay Sr. Early Childhood Development/Parenting Education Center Professional Development Room at 6 p.m.
